Bison

Bringing the American bison back to the Great Plains is not only possible, it's happening now. You can support the National Wildlife Federation, the American Prairie Foundation, and many others joining forces to put things right.

Western settlement and market hunting decimated nearly all the big game species of the Great Plains. Nearly all of them have been restored, but the American Bison is still missing from the Great Plains.

Bison Restoration is not only possilbe, it is happening right now. Get involved with the National Wildlife Federation or the American Prairie Foundation.”

If children are considered the future, why the smoking?

For Chinese Students, Smoking Isn’t All Bad - Businessweek:

"In dozens of rural villages in China’s western provinces, one of the first things primary school kids learn is what helps make their education possible: tobacco. The schools are sponsored by local units of China’s state-owned cigarette monopoly, China National Tobacco. “On the gates of these schools you’ll see slogans that say ‘Genius comes from hard work—tobacco helps you become talented,’” says Xu Guihua, secretary general of the Chinese Association on Tobacco Control, a privately funded lobbying group. “They are pinning their hopes on young people taking up smoking.”

Anti-tobacco groups say efforts in China to reduce sales... "

Let the wolves live in FREEDOM

Let the wolves live in FREEDOM

Wolves are having a very, VERY tough time this year.
First there was HR.1, a bill allowing for wolves to be de-listed from the ESA by POLITICS not SCIENCE, then hunted and controlled, allowing for wolves to be shot on sight all over the U.S., gassed in their dens, shot down from airplanes, and possibly meaning the extinction of the Mexican gray wolf.
Fortunately, this bill was not passed. But now there are several more bills like it.
Not to mention the new 'settlement' made by 10 plaintiff ENVIRONMENTAL groups, including Defenders of Wildlife and NRDC, allowing for the hunting of wolves in ID and MT, and TRUSTING THESE STATES to manage wolves SCIENTIFICALLY.
Which seems impossible.
Well we'll see what the consequences are, how it works out for wolves... if it turns out badly, hopefully people will learn from it.
But whatever happens, we MUST keep fighting to keep wolves protected so they can live in freedom forever.

Wolf Pack by Bill Mason - NFB

Wolf Pack by Bill Mason - NFB: "Filmed by Bill Mason in caribou country, this nature film closely observes wolves through late winter into early spring. Wolf Pack shows this creature’s character, behaviour and life cycle. What emerges is a portrait of the wolf as a disciplined hunter, respected leader and committed parent."

Cry of the Wild

This feature-length documentary from Bill Mason imparts his affection for the big northern timber wolves and the pure-white Arctic wolves. Filmed over three years in the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, the High Arctic and his home near the Gatineau Hills in Quebec, Mason sets out to dispel the myth of the bloodthirsty wolf. Going beyond the wolf's natural habitat, Mason relocated three young wolves to his own property and was able to film tribal customs, mating and birth. As a result, Cry of the Wild offers viewers access to moments in wildlife never before seen on film.
